About this site

IDSViz is an interactive tool for exploring infant-directed speech (IDS) in English and Spanish. Browse vowel and consonant distributions, see variation in pronunciation, and listen to audio clips of sounds and words from speech directed to infants.

What you can do

Vowel Plots

Plot vowels in formant space (F1/F2/F3/duration) and explore consonant variation by phonetic realization, preceding segment, or following segment.

Vowel formant plot Segment variation plot

Pronunciation Variation

View how target segments are produced in various contexts in English infant-directed speech.

Audio Playback

Search for any segment or string and play back trimmed audio clips extracted from the source recordings, optionally alongside the preceding and/or following item for context.
